My search for authors and illustrators to feature in this multicultural volume turned up several bookpeople who presented an authentic image of African Americans, but the number was not overwhelming; I was only able to identify a few Asian-American authors, two Native Americans, and one Hispanic bookperson. In selecting author/illustrators, I considered a number of criteria. First, the bookperson had to have published more than one book, and these books had to be available through conventional publishing channels.
