Nekton and eight environmental parameters were monitored in this province between 2004 and 2006, at 14 sites sampled three times a year.
However, our results make it clear that from the perspective of aquatic biodiversity, the permanent closure of the sluice gates is detrimental to both biodiversity and fish abundance in canals.
